Trending: Iridescent Metallic Jewelry Adds Shine to Summer Styles

If the jewelry at your local department store seems to be shimmering more than usual, it’s not a mirage. Iridescent and holographic metallic finishes are heating up the Spring/Summer 2017 fashion jewelry scene, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down for fall.

Iridescent metallic jewelry is part of a larger accessories trend which includes highly reflective small leather goods, sunglasses, and handbags. Influenced by couture and ready-to-wear fashion designers, jewelry makers are embracing soft, watery pastels as well as bold purples and deep blues, sometimes called “oil slick” colors. Metallic finishes range from a light, pearlized “topcoat” to a high-shine mirrored or holographic surface.

Let’s take a look.

Alexis Bittar

Alexis Bittar has been dazzling the jewelry world for more than two decades, earning the nickname “The Lucite King” along the way. Bittar also earned the 2010 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Accessory Designer of the Year award. In addition to his own stores, his collections can be found at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman.

We love Bittar’s Liquid Silk collection, a perfect example of the softer side of the iridescent jewelry trend. Equally compelling are his darker Liquid Metal beads, rings and earrings. They’re classic with a hint of punk…borrowed from the ‘80s vibe that is so popular this season. For details and prices, go to
