As I write this post, the Fashion Week crowd is attending the Fall 2016 Ready-to-Wear collections in Milan. If you can’t quite get your head around next winter’s styles, you’re not alone. Many top designers are finally giving up the old-school “six-months-out” collection calendar and switching to a more shopper-friendly “see it now/buy it now” schedule. This means the new fashions and accessories we see online, on Instagram and on the red carpet will be available in stores immediately after they debut in New York, Milan and Paris.
With this happy thought in mind, let’s focus on what’s on-trend and on the shelves right now…for Spring 2016. Here are three must-have jewelry styles for spring and summer, along with tips to help you get the designer looks for less.
The Fashion Tribe Loves Tribal Jewelry
From Balmain to Derek Lam to Valentino, the spring collections were rife with tribal influences. Think breast-plate-size collars and animal bone earrings, Maasai beaded chokers and feathered bracelets. Check out this video from Valentino Spring/Summer 2016 for inspiration. I’m on visual overload…it’s a jungle out there!
Sculptural Earrings, Necklaces and Bracelets Rule
Designer J.W. Anderson embraced his inner sculptor for spring, and so can you. Whether curved and sinewy or cool and linear, one bold gold cuff might be all you need to make an artistic statement of your own.
It-Girls Love Their Pearls
Okay, I was going to save this one for June, but let’s get a jump-start on this trend now. Ferragamo and Gucci both showed pearls hanging from long silver and gold threads – the earring of the season. And Balenciaga featured Boho chandeliers that go-for-Baroque. Try crisscrossing long strands of pearls under your black leather jacket. Think of new ways to wear your old favorites…pearls!
