JEWELRY CLEANER

How to Clean Costume Jewelery

Costume jewelery is made from a variety of materials, often including plated base metals, imitation gemstones, glass, crystal, or plastic. Because the materials and finishes can vary from piece to piece, extra care should be taken when cleaning to avoid damaging delicate coatings, glued stones, or decorative details.

The best way to clean costume jewelry is to use Connoisseurs Delicate Jewelry Cleaner. This ammonia-free formula is designed for “handle with care” pieces and is gentle enough for costume jewelry. You can also use Connoisseurs Jewelry Cleansing Foam or Jewelry Cleansing Foam & Brush for a quick, all-purpose clean.

Connoisseurs Tip: If your costume jewelry has glued stones, avoid soaking it for long periods. Instead, lightly apply cleaner with the brush, gently wipe with a damp cloth, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. We do not recommend ultrasonic cleaning for costume jewelery, as vibration may loosen glued stones or fragile settings.
