Designer Inspo: Get These 2020 Grammys Jewelry Looks for Less
The Grammy Awards red carpet is traditionally the most untraditional of all the awards shows. From slogan T-shirts to Haute Couture, anything goes, as it did on January 26 at the Los Angeles Staples Center. Let’s explore how to find some designer-inspired Grammys jewelry looks for less than you thought possible. Happy shopping!
Valli Vs. Versace
- Ariana Grande in Versace at the 2020 Grammy Awards Ceremony
- Versace Medusa Ring, $450, 1stdibs
- Lizzo in Versace and Lorraine Schwartz Double Diamond Necklace
- Marielle Double Rhinestone Necklace, under $100, at Amazon
- Lil Nas X in Versace Medusa Motifs
- Versace Medusa Brooch, $395, 1stdibs.com
An early arrival on the red carpet, Ariana Grande stunned in a dove-grey tulle Cinderella moment by Giambattista Valli. Like so many stars at the Grammys, her diamonds came from Hollywood go-to jeweler Lorraine Schwartz. But for me the night belonged to the House of Versace: Lizzo channeled Old Hollywood glamour in Atelier Versace, with a layered diamond necklace by Lorraine Schwartz; Grammys host Alicia Keys rocked vintage Versace metal mesh, which only needed minimal jewelry; Camila Cabello wore three different Versace looks throughout the night; and last but not least, Lil Nas X, always a rhinestone cowboy, celebrated Versace from head to toe.
Note the famed Versace Medusa symbol pinned on Nas’s hot pink Stetson, a motif repeated in the silk scarves bound around his wrists. Look for this Grammys jewelry look for less on 1stDibs; I found a Medusa brooch and a ring for under $500 each.
Love Lizzo’s double-diamond necklace? Check out Marielle’s budget-friendly rhinestone style for well under $100 on Amazon.
Gucci + Gucci
- Billie Eilish in Gucci
- Gucci Hoops on 1stdibs, $1,200
- Gucci White Gold and Diamond Earrings, $970 on 1stdibs
- 1990s Gucci Logo Drop Earrings, $450, 1stDibs
Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, the evening’s big winner, took home four Grammys…at the tender age of 18. Eilish and her producer-brother Finneas O’Connell accepted each award in Custom Gucci, which Billie also wore for her heartfelt performance. I spotted big double G hoops under the singer’s acid-green hair, and a fabulous crystal GG choker. Visit TheRealReal and 1stDibs for vintage and “previously loved” Gucci jewelry like the gold drop earrings above ($450). I don’t know about you, but I’m buying more of my jewelry at these resale sites; it’s affordable and sustainable.
Dolce & Gabbana
- Gwen Stefani in Dolce & Gabbana
- 1980s Embellished Heart Cuff by Dolce & Gabbana, $600, 1stdibs
My hands-down favorite 2020 Grammy’s look was Gwen Stefani’s over-the-top turnout by Dolce & Gabbana (are you sensing an Italian designer theme here?). Accessorized with a floral tiara, and embellished with pearls, crystals, hearts and flowers, this white confection gave some red carpet watchers wedding day vibes.
Gwen’s layered necklaces and bracelets reflected D&G’s more-is-more aesthetic…a trick any one of us can accomplish IRL. Begin with the brand’s enduring house code, the puffy heart, and move on from there. I found Dolce’s red crystal heart cuff on 1stDibs for $600…wouldn’t it make a fabulous Valentine’s gift?
