As we write this post, the World Series — one of fall’s great rituals — is in full swing. But as soon as it’s over, Major League coaches and scouts will be warming up for Spring Training. And so goes the cycle in fashion. Magazine editors have returned from Paris and Milan with visions of Spring/Summer 2014 in their heads…even as they celebrate their big fall issues. A good way to sneak a peek at jewelry trends for spring is to view the ready-to-wear scouting reports on Vogue.com or TheNewYorkTimes.com. Here are three fabulous necklace looks we loved from the collections…each one guaranteed to hit it out of the park!

Chanel – The Earphone Pearl Necklace

The headline from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2014 Collection is a necklace shaped like a pair of headphones — so wacky it just works. Karl Lagerfeld said of the audio-inspired choker: “My favorite thing is the new necklace like an earphone, it’s two huge pearls, but in fact it’s very flattering because the huge pearls give a beautiful light on the girl’s face.” Will this nod to Geek Chic be copied at different price points come spring? Time will tell. But it’s safe to say this is just the kind of whimsical statement Mademoiselle herself would adore.

Valentino – The Zodiac Necklace

Nearly every outfit that came down the runway at the Valentino spring show was topped off by a chunky gold chain — wrapped three times around the neck — with a zodiac pendant suspended at the throat. Simply stunning. We predicted here at OBJ that zodiac jewelry would be bigger than ever this season. It’s a great way to personalize your jewelry wardrobe, and a terrific look with spring sweaters, dresses, and crisp white shirts.

Fallon – The More-is-More Necklace

Fallon Jewelry Designer Dana Lorenz’s
Layered Chains

New York-based Dana Lorenz, the genius behind Fallon Jewelry, burst on the scene in 2005, and since then this street-smart designer has proven she knows a thing or two about punk-and-plenty. Vogue applauded “what might be the first runway show for jewelry in the history of New York Fashion Week,” where Fallon models wore leather sweatpants and vintage Levi’s with layered chains, spiky bracelets, shoe-and-boot jewelry, and sexy back necklaces.

“Regardless of ensemble, the runway results will surely adhere to what the designer describes as her ‘layered aesthetic,’ a proudly more-is-more credo. ‘I like two pins on a lapel, but I also like 80,’ she confesses. Reversing a riotous necklace of stones and spikes so that only the oversize circle clasp shows at the model’s throat, she laughs, ‘It’s a party in the back!’” – Vogue.com
