This awards season there has been as much speculation about Red Carpet fashions and jewelry as there has been about who will actually win Hollywood’s annual Academy Awards. But just who sets the trends and who follows them?
The influential stylists that dress Hollywood’s A-list stars have their pick from among the world’s best designers and haute jewelry houses. Their Red Carpet selections for their clients, and the coverage they receive from the international press, can set jewelry trends that last throughout the year, or longer.
According to National Jeweler magazine, there are four big trends to look out for at the Oscars telecast on February 24.
The Statement Necklace. Jessica Chastain, star of Zero Dark Thirty, and Jennifer Lawrence of Silver Linings Playbook were just two of the celebs wearing important diamond necklaces at the SAG Awards in January. Look for this trend to continue, often in platinum, especially with strapless dresses.
Color, Notably Green, as in Emeralds. Don’t forget Emerald Green is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2013. At the 70th annual Golden Globes on January 13, emeralds turned up in diamond chandelier earrings and rings, adding another pop of color to solid color gowns.
Drop Earrings. It’s all about bringing attention to the face! Taylor Swift, Naomi Watts and Amy Adams, among others, have worn oversize gemstone drops on the Red Carpet this season. This trend is on the up-swing, especially with up-do hair.
Stacked Gem Bracelets. Multi-color or all in one hue, these precious stackables are often created in platinum for durability. But you can achieve this beautiful look at an affordable price point…get out there and shop!
Obsessed by Jewelry’s wild card red carpet jewelry prediction: Colored Diamonds. Look for rare Natural Colored Diamonds, aka Fancy Color Diamonds, to take center stage at the Oscars, as more and more celebrities and their stylists choose colored stones – especially pinks, yellow and blues – to highlight the colors in their couture gowns.
Enjoy the 85th Annual Academy Awards this Sunday at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC…as well as the fashion/jewelry coverage on E! Live! From the Red Carpet (OBJ’s favorite part), starting at 5:30 p.m., ET.
