Les Bonbons (And How to Get Summer’s Red-Hot Earring Look for Less)

Every couple of years a pair of earrings comes along that takes the fashion world by storm. Two years ago, for instance, it was Oscar de la Renta’s beaded tassels, which were widely copied at every price point. This season’s must-have earrings are called “Les Bonbons™ by Rebecca de Ravenel” — a whimsical multi-drop style that reflects the young designer’s island roots and playful nature.

Since making their debut late last year, Les Bonbons have been gobbled up by fashionistas, editors, influential bloggers and Instagrammers everywhere. They range in price from $275 to $875, but we found some lookalikes at websites that carry this summer’s red-hot earring look for less.

About Jewelry Designer Rebecca de Ravenel

Rebecca de Ravenel spent her childhood in the Bahamas before moving with her family to Paris, where her father was an antique dealer. “I used to sit in the window of my parents’ antique shop on la rue Jacob when I was a little girl,” she recalls on her website. “That’s where it all started for me; it was an easy place to be inspired.”

However, Rebecca has always considered the Bahamas her home, and the tropical aesthetic — coupled with a touch of urban flair — has become her hallmark. Over the years she has worked in fashion and interior design “with a longstanding desire of dressing the divine girl in the divine room” she says.

This dream became a reality in 2009 when famed photographer/journalist Bruce Weber chronicled Rebecca’s island It Girl lifestyle in a multi-page portfolio for Paris Vogue.

A Passion for Jewelry

In 2015 Rebecca turned her longtime passion for unique jewelry and accessories into a business. Les Bonbons by Rebecca de Ravenel were born, she says, as a result of her never finding the perfect lightweight wearable earring.

“Staying in harmony with her whimsical island style,” RDR.com explains, “Les Bonbons are a collection of cylindrical earrings with a wonderful sense of humor.”
