Kristen Stewart is channeling Coco Chanel in a new film directed by Karl Lagerfeld. The actress, who has appeared in Chanel advertising campaigns, will star in a short film to debut in December during the fashion house’s Métiers d’Arts show. Expect to see fabulous costumes and vintage Chanel jewelry. We’ll bring you the link right here at OBJ.
The film is about the making of another film — a fictional biography of the legendary designer. Stewart plays the young Gabrielle Chanel, and Geraldine Chaplin portrays her in later life.
Lagerfeld described Stewart’s performance to Harper’s Bazaar: “She played it really, really mean. You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything. She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer.”
HB editor Laura Brown will have a cameo in the film, playing an American journalist in Paris.
Meanwhile in New York
These are the final days to see “China: Through the Looking Glass” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City; it closes on September 7. The exhibit, which profiles the Chinese influence on fashion and jewelry, has become the Costume Institute’s best-attended exhibition ever, with 670,000 visitors to date.
Accessories Magazine is predicting we’ll see a big Chinese influence at New York Fashion Week, which begins September 10.
Speaking of Fashion Week
Let’s see if the jewelry trends from Summer and Fall 2015 extend to the Spring 2016 Ready-to-Wear collections in NYC. Will there be more paisley motifs, tassels and fringe, stripes and chevron, for instance? Will statement necklaces to give way to long swingy pendants (or tight statement collars)? And will we forever be trapped in the 1970s? Stay tuned.
