Disney has tapped London-based jewelry company Crow’s Nest for a limited-edition capsule collection based on the studio’s new film “Maleficent,” which stars Angelina Jolie and opens TODAY. The Maleficent Collection collaboration is just one slice of a merchandising pie that includes toys, cosmetics, and children’s clothes, all of which celebrate the dark beauty — and back story — of Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis, Maleficent.
Inspired by key motifs in the film — fire, dragons, thorns, horns, and feathers — the collection is a bit macabre and mysterious, just like the movie’s main character. It is available at specialty stores and at both the Crow’s Nest and Disney websites; prices range from $5,180 to $20,880.
“It’s a seven-piece collection of contemporary and statement rings, bracelets and earcuffs, taking inspiration from and interpreting the key elements of the film,” Crow’s Nest founder and creative director Daniel-Philip Belevitch told Vogue UK. “Each piece is set in rhodium with black diamonds, featuring a pear-shaped onyx, which contrasts with the green tsavorite that has become signature for my core pieces.”
A Globetrotting Jewelry Designer
Belevitch, who is just 27 years old, is of Russian heritage. Originally from Australia, the globetrotting designer has spent time in Los Angeles, Stockholm, and London, among other places. He currently produces his jewelry at an ancient Italian atelier. In December, Belevitch flew to Singapore for a trunk show at the famed Raffles Hotel. It was sponsored by stoneandstrand.com, the fine jewelry website that has helped to popularize Crow’s Nest’s core 18K gold collection.
“Working with Disney is like a dream come true,” said Belevitch of his recent good fortune. “[The Maleficent Collection] is dramatic and beyond anything I could
have ever imagined. It’s fierce.”
“Maleficent” stars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning and was directed by Oscar-winner Robert Stromberg.
