When it comes to red carpet fashion, it’s common knowledge that the Golden Globes are a little more casual, more relaxed, more throw-caution-to-the-wind than the Academy Awards. But you wouldn’t know that from the gowns and jewels on parade Sunday night in Beverly Hills, CA. Here are OBJ’s top three picks for Best Jewelry at the 2017 Golden Globes…and here’s to a dazzling red carpet season ahead!
Win: Blake Lively
Not only does gorgeous Blake Lively up her style game with each and every red carpet appearance, she managed to do it four months after delivering her second child! Wearing a custom Atelier Versace design with sweeping train and gold embellishment at the neckline and pockets, Lively was the essence of Old Hollywood glamour. (Of course, it didn’t hurt to have husband Ryan Reynolds on her arm–or was it the other way around?)
The clincher in Lively’s first-place look came in the form of two oversize emerald cuffs, designed by Lorraine Schwartz. The wide gold cuffs, with diamonds, provided bold strokes of color every time Lively’s hands rested on her hips, or slid into her metallic pockets.
This was a brilliant decision by the star and her stylist…one that will go a long way to confirm the double-cuff trend for 2017.
Place: Natalie Portman
Nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in “Jackie,” a pregnant Natalie Portman was resplendent in a citrine Prada gown with beaded and crystal embellishments at the sleeves and hem. She accessorized with $135,000 Tiffany & Co. diamond fringe earrings, a white and yellow diamond ring, and a spectacular diamond bracelet from 1910, courtesy of the Tiffany Archival Collection.
Portman channeled Jackie from the 1960s, with her hair in a half up-do, her boat-neck, three-quarter sleeve gown, and a demure clutch. She was elegant, glowing, and regal looking. All in all it was a bravura performance.
Show: Kristin Bell
No, it wasn’t the plunging neckline of her Tom Ford gown that earned Kristen Bell OBJ’s Show award, it was 115 carats of Harry Winston diamonds, including triple-hoop earrings, circa 1963, a wide diamond bracelet, and stacked diamond rings (another big trend at the Globes).
We can’t wait to see what these three winners will wear to the SAG Awards (January 29) and the Oscars (February 26).
