“We’ve been in a golden jewelry moment for a long time, but fashion’s swinging pendulum is upon us.” – Accessories Magazine, June 2018.

Gaga for Silver
I first detected a shift to silver at the F/W ’18 runway shows last March. Alexander McQueen sent out tubular silver neck rings layered with silver pendants, and designers Alexander Wang and Marnie both echoed the look. In June, when Lady Gaga wore McQueen’s silver combo at the MTV Awards, the fashion press pounced. Accessories magazine observed: “… while chokers came and went just an eyeblink ago, neck rings are already making a welcome return.”
In case you’re wondering, the silver neck ring is sleeker and more sculptural than last year’s choker; it’s a throwback to ‘90s style so popular again today. After a long, hot summer of candy-colored Lucite, I find something very refreshing about this cool and classic design.

Silver with Western Wear
Another hot runway trend that points to a silver jewelry comeback is the emergence of Western Wear/Americana Style. I love this modern mashup of suede, fringe, patchwork, and quilted fashions, all of which naturally call for Southwestern silver and turquoise jewelry.
Ralph Lauren, whose style is synonymous with the American West, mixes silver, turquoise and coral in Native American squash blossom necklaces and Concho belts. Look for vintage silver bargains by Ralph on 1stDibs and RubyLane, as well as highly collectible sterling silver pieces by Georg Jensen, David Yurman, and John Hardy.

They’re Buying Silver at BaubleBar
Fashion jewelry giant BaubleBar is selling more silver jewelry in 2018. BB co-founder Daniella Yacobovski recently told WhoWhatWear: “We have noticed a large surge in searches for silver on our site …We introduced two of our most popular styles [in silver] and they sold out in under 24 hours and built up a large waiting list.”
BaubleBar is the perfect place to buy trending silver pieces at an affordable price. I updated my silver hoops for only $36, and found a versatile Y-necklace for just $48. I’ll wear them with my vintage Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. Silver “Bone” Cuff. Are you buying something in silver for fall?
