Did you watch the Oscars? What a night for fabulous gems. As predicted last week, all five of our jewelry trends came to life on the Red Carpet. And a new trendlet was born: Jennifer Lawrence’s long diamond necklace by Chopard, worn down her back, looked thoroughly fresh and modern. Actually, flappers wore this style in the 1920s, but everything old and dazzling is new again.
Here are some more looks we loved:
Statement Necklaces were out in full force, including Jennifer Garner’s late 19th Century diamond stunner from Neil Lane. Giuliana Rancic of the “E! News” estimated it at a cool $2 million.
Drop Earrings, especially white diamonds set in platinum, set off side-swept hair and strapless gowns.
Stacked Gem Bracelets. The paparazzi snapped oodles of these precious bangles, most in the preferred Red Carpet pose — hand on hip.
And Color, as in emeralds, was not to be denied. Best Director nominee Kathryn Bigelow was among those who chose the gorgeous green gems for good luck.
Several celebrities embraced OBJ’s prediction that Natural Colored Diamonds would rock the Red Carpet. Catherine Zeta-Jones wore Lorraine Schwartz gold earrings with earth-tone colored stones, while Kerry Washington and Olivia Munn chose natural yellow diamonds.
But it was 75-year-old Jane Fonda who almost stole the show from the starlets, appearing in a corseted canary-yellow Versace gown with big shoulders and retro sequins a la “Dynasty.” This two-time Academy Award winner wore Chopard’s stunning 28-carat yellow diamond chandelier earrings and a matching 10-carat emerald-cut yellow diamond ring.
All we can say is, “Wow!”
