How to clean a Garnet

GarnetJanuary’s birthstone, Garnet, is from a large family of gemstones which occur in every shade except blue. The most familiar of the Garnet family is the brownish red color.

To maintain the brilliance of the Garnet it should be cleaned regularly. With all gemstones, care should be taken to protect it from scratches and sharp blows.

The best way to clean a garnet is to use Connoisseurs Precious Jewelry Cleaner. First, close the stopper on the sink. Next, immerse your jewelry in the jar of cleaner for a few minutes. Use the strainer to remove your jewelry and gently brush the stone with the specialized cleaning brush. Make sure to get under and around the prongs of the setting to remove all the build-up that can occur with daily wearing. Rinse your jewelry with lukewarm water under the sink and dry with a lint free cloth. Ultrasonic machines are not recommended.
