The name Umane Paris may not be as well-known as the storied French jewelers of the Place Vendȏme, but connoisseurs of haute joaillerie recognize the women-owned brand as the essence of chic. Avant garde yet classically French, the couture jewelry collections of Valerie Brun and Maé Jund are available exclusively in the U.S. at Dorfman Jewelers in Boston.
Champions of French Jewelry
Starting in 1941 with visionary founders Barbara and Sumner Dorfman, and continuing under Executive Director Gerard Riveron, Dorfman is known for championing and nurturing extraordinary French jewelers. When Riveron “discovered” design partners Brun and Jund on a buying trip to Paris several years ago, he knew instinctively that their exquisite and eclectic designs would appeal to Dorfman’s sophisticated clientele.
“Valerie and Maé combine refinement, minimalism, and absolute femininity for the epitome of modern French style,” said Riveron from Dorfman’s Newbury Street salon.
Brun and Jund founded their jewelry company in 2000, choosing Umane, “a soft and gentle name to translate the force and vital energy of the earth and the consummate art of jewelry.” The name is also meant to evoke authenticity, with many designs celebrating nature and the elements. Umane’s popular Pebble Collection, for instance, is inspired by shiny pebbles set with pools of brilliant-cut diamonds, “beauty born of irregularity” and organic design.
A Sensuous Approach
Umane‘s designers call upon the power of nature and the sense of touch to create a sensuous approach to couture jewelry. This feminine force results in bejeweled creations which Riveron and his colleagues describe as “novel and bold,” “delicately intense,” and “the last word in stylishness and elegance.”
“Umane captures with precision just where women are today. Distinctive, wearable jewelry with a flair,” added Dorfman Jewelers co-owner Jonathan Dorfman.
