Trending: Big Chain Link Jewelry to Give and Receive

Want to get a head start on your holiday shopping? It might help to zero in on a single jewelry style that will work for all the fashion girls on your list. This year I’m concentrating on a hot runway and Instagram trend: big chain link jewelry. Care to join me?

Chain links are a classic jewelry motif, and since the reemergence of “everything ‘80s” they’re bigger and bolder than ever. After years of delicate, layered micro-chains, it’s refreshing to see styles with a little extra gravitas.

Big chain link jewelry—the chunkier the better—will stand up to winter’s eclectic prints and heavier textures. Here are a few pieces at the very top of my list.

One of the season’s must-haves, a bold gold chain link necklace will work with everything you and your giftees own. I’m loving my gold-plated version on a ribbed-knit sweater, or layered with a locket under a crisp white shirt.

A gold chain link choker can also light up an LBD or a velvet pantsuit for holiday parties. But just because it makes a big statement, don’t think of it as only a dress-up piece. Consider wearing chain links with casual looks and athletic wear, as Hailey Baldwin does in the photo above.

Resin chain link necklaces in tortoise shell were all over the fall and winter runways, but the best ones tend to be rather pricey. I prefer BaubleBar’s Marbelized Resin Chain in bone color. For only $38, it will work right through the spring and summer months too.

My hands-down favorite holiday gift this year is the 24K gold-plated Catalina Link Bracelet by New York-based designer Julie Vos. To my eye, this quintessential chain link bracelet has the unmistakable patina of a real gold legacy piece.

I wear Vos’s beautiful bracelet solo, or sometimes stacked with my 14K gold bangles (I’ve even clipped on a charm or two). It’s a bit of a splurge at $295, but to me it’s worth every penny. Available at julievos.com.

Gold Chain Link Earrings

Earrings are the perfect Secret Santa gift, so start a chain reaction among your BFFs. This year I’m giving long, multi-link drops in gold-tone metal. Forever 21 has a stocking stuffer pair for just under $5 (that’s not a typo). At this price, we can all spread the holiday ear cheer far and wide!
