When it comes to dressing up, New Year’s Eve is the biggest night of the year. But even though we know it’s coming, many of us feel unprepared about our party outfits. Never fear, you can step up your New Year’s style game by relying on the jewelry you already own (and one or two new baubles you so richly deserve). In other words, instead of panicking about shopping for a new cocktail dress or a slinky jumpsuit, count on jewelry to help you make a dazzling entrance into 2017.
No, they’re not “too last year,” it’s just been a year since you’ve worn them! Clean and polish your pearl danglers or rhinestone chandeliers and see how they draw attention to your face (don’t forget a smoky eye and a red lip will help).
What was OBJ’s favorite earring of 2016? It has to be Rebecca de Ravenel’s Les Bonbons, a collection of whimsical featherweight drops. These 2-, 3- or 4-orb styles won the year’s “As Seen In” award, as fashion editors and bloggers sang their praises. They’re still a good investment, although pricey at $295 and up; look for affordable lookalikes online.
Chokers and Chains
The choker trend isn’t going anywhere in 2017, so try one this New Year’s Eve…and beyond. Wear a wide solo choker high on the neck, or layer a thin velvet ribbon with longer chains.
Pair your necklaces with an open-neck satin blouse and sleek black pants, and voila…you have an instant party look (add your highest heels for good measure).
Wide Cuff Bracelets
OBJ fans know we’re mad about matching cuff bracelets, preferably in gold. But if you don’t have a pair, stack two different cuffs on one arm (yes, more is more on New Year’s Eve). Look for styles that are reminiscent of the classic Verdura Maltese Cross cuffs favored by Coco Chanel. (Hint: Gale Grant makes a beauty with colorful Swarovski crystals.)
Sparkling Hair Ornaments
While you’re considering whether to wear a high pony or a top-knot to the party, don’t forget about flattering hair accessories. Headbands are back…in gold, silver, crystals and seed pearls — or all of the above. Big bejeweled barrettes and hair combs are good options, too. Look for a wide variety of glittering ornaments in department stores or your drugstore’s hair care aisle.
Happy Holiday Parties from All Your Friends at OBJ!
