Superstar Rihanna stunned in Cannes last week when she co-hosted a dinner in honor of her collaboration with the Swiss jeweler Chopard. The new Rihanna Loves Chopard collection is the latest coup by Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard, who also celebrated the brand’s 20-year partnership with the Cannes International Film Festival and the anniversary of designing its coveted Palme d’Or Award.

RiRi arrived on the red carpet in a regal black strapless gown, with a tulle wrap, by Ralph & Russo. For jewelry lovers, however, all eyes were trained on her Chopard diamond drop earrings, choker, bracelet and rings.

Chopard’s delicate diamond necklace featured a central motif which Rihanna wore slightly askew. Perched above her calligraphy tattoo, it provided just a hint of bad-girl edge to her elegant ensemble. Perfection!

The World’s Most Expensive Earrings

A 14.54-carat Fancy Vivid Blue diamond earring and a 16-carat Fancy Intense Pink diamond earring fetched $57.4 million at Sotheby’s May 16 jewelry auction in Geneva, Switzerland. Sotheby’s reported that they are the most valuable earrings ever sold at auction.

Listed separately in the catalog, the blue earring sold for more than $42.08 million and the pink earring realized more than $15.3 million, including buyers’ premiums.

The record-setting earrings were designed to be worn together as a mismatched pair. They were purchased by the same buyer, who wishes to remain anonymous. Originally named Apollo (the blue) and Artemis (the pink), for twin Greek gods, the stones were curiously renamed “The Memory of Autumn Leaves” and “The Dream of Autumn Leaves” by their new owner.

The Heart Wants What It Wants

“La Légende,” a 92-carat heart-shaped diamond suspended from a strand of cultured pearls sold for about $15 million on May 18 at Christie’s Geneva. According to Christie’s, the D-color flawless stone set a new auction record for the highest price ever achieved for a heart-shaped diamond.

The necklace was designed by Boehmer et Bassenge.
