Gumuchian Achieves “Made in NY” Certification
Fine jewelry brand Gumuchian has received the coveted “Made in NY” designation. The luxury jeweler is only the second fine jewelry brand to receive this official certification, joining Carelle.
Sponsored by New York City Economic Development Corporation, “Made in NY” means that Gumuchian jewelry meets the highest quality standards and that it is manufactured in New York. Gumuchian’s collections include the new Secret Garden collection, the Cascade collection, and the “B” collection, which donates some proceeds to City Growers in support of beekeeping efforts.
Founder Anita Gumuchian and her daughters Myriam and Patricia run the century-old family business. Their mantra, “Designed by Women for Women,” is a favorite brand statement here at OBJ.
Congratulations to everyone at Gumuchian… we couldn’t BEE happier for you!

New York Jewelry Design Institute Offers a Course for Up-and-Coming Designers
Here’s an opportunity for emerging jewelry designers to one day be recognized as Rising Stars. A course called “Create Your Own Signature Collection” will be taught by jewelry designer Kristin Hanson in March and April at the NYJDI headquarters in New York City.
The course will explore how to create a trademark look, how to develop the concept through the design process, and how to create a portfolio that expresses your signature. Students will participate in drawing, painting, photography, collage, video and sculpture.
Hanson is an award-winning fine jewelry designer who has studied under master jeweler Harold O’Connor in Colorado and at the Alchimia jewelry school in Florence, Italy. Her jewelry, under her own name, is carried in Neiman Marcus stores across the U.S.
“Create Your Own Signature Collection” will begin Tuesday, March 28, and continue on Tuesdays, from 6 to 9 p.m., through April 18. The course will be held at the NYJDI campus in Manhattan; tuition is $650 plus tax.
