Are you dazzled by the kaleidoscope of print fashions in the stores this season? You’re not alone. Designers embraced a record number of patterns, plaids, and florals in their Fall ’18 collections, often mixing them all together. At first I found the choices to be a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to deciding how to accessorize with jewelry. So I narrowed things down to my three favorite print trends. Here they are, with jewelry that complements, or is inspired by, each print.
It’s considered the biggest trend of the season, but it is actually season-less and more versatile than you think. Animal prints, led by fashion-favorite leopard, have crept in on tiny cat feet to autumn coats, jackets, accessories, and yes, jewelry.
If, like me, you’ve never been an animal print person, why not start small to see how you like it? Try a leopard blouse with your favorite jeans, or a zebra-print cross-body bag or belt bag. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll develop all the animal magnetism you need!
When it comes to jewelry accessories, I prefer tailored gold or sterling silver pieces that don’t “compete” with these all-over patterns. If you want to add just a touch of wildlife to a solid color outfit, the leopard ring by Effy (above) is perfectly on-point.
This one’s a sleeper, but look for it to take hold by the holidays. Lace prints are feminine and sophisticated, and some offer a sheer or sexy option for evening. This season, many designers have paired lace with paisley, stripes, or plaids, in daring combos.
Try black gemstone jewelry with light-colored lace, and pearls for contrast with black or dark colors. I’m coveting a sterling silver lace-like bracelet for fall. In any case, just buy something in lace!
Here’s a print for people who don’t like prints. Reminiscent of high-end designer scarves (think Hermès, Gucci, Ferragamo), Fall ’18 scarf prints borrow from preppy and retro styles.
Often these prints feature chain link or equestrian motifs, and they look terrific with everything from suede pants to faux fur jackets. These blouses from Zara are very Versace…I’ll wear mine with a gold chain necklace and stirrup-style earrings. Ciao!
