Sunday, September 22, marks the Autumnal Equinox, or the first day of fall. But around this time of year many of us are still trying to stretch our summer wardrobes for as long as possible – including our jewelry. New York Times fashion photographer Bill Cunningham chronicled what he calls “Sunflower Colors” on the streets of New York last week, as women attending Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week favored bold yellow dresses, topaz and gold jewelry, and floral prints to celebrate the last days of summer. Take a look:
Consider adding sunflower colors to your jewelry wardrobe by selecting pieces in amber, topaz, citrine, or yellow diamonds (if you’re lucky). And don’t be afraid to mix yellow gold and rose gold together, a classic jewelry layering technique that looks casual and sophisticated at the same time.
Want to continue this sunny color trend into fall? You’ll have plenty of fashionable company. The September issues of all the top fashion magazines are showing yellow, gold, and floral designs mixed with large doses of grey flannel and black. Collections from Kate Spade to Versace feature pops of taxi cab yellow, bright florals grounded in black, and beautiful gold jewelry encrusted with yellow and orange gemstones.
So go ahead, enjoy the sunset of Summer 2013 (you’ve still got a week left). And while you’re at it, consider buying a new piece of mellow yellow jewelry to sparkle up those long winter nights ahead.
Go for the glow!
