While the preponderance of designer gowns and diamonds at the 2018 Oscars were white, the fashion takeaway of the night was clearly blue: rich royal blue, powder blue, aquamarine blue, every hue of blue. Led by the stunning Nicole Kidman, who stole the show in a Giorgio Armani sapphire sheath, a dazzling array of presenters of all ages chose blue jewels and gowns for the 90th Academy Awards Red Carpet.
Jennifer Garner channeled Old Hollywood in a diaphanous cobalt blue gown and train by Atelier Versace. Her side-swept hair was the perfect foil for diamond and sapphire stiletto earrings from Piaget. National Jeweler reports that Jennifer also wore “a Piaget ‘Secrets and Lights’ ring, which opens and closes, in 18-karat white gold with diamonds and sapphire, as well as another 18-karat white gold and diamond ring.”
Emily Blunt seemed to float down the carpet in a powder blue Schiaparelli Couture gown from the Spring 2018 collection. The star of the upcoming film Mary Poppins Returns chose Chopard jewels to complement her dreamy blue dress. Later she would change into a gold and beaded Alexander McQueen number for the Vanity Fair after-party.
Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot previewed spectacular aquamarine and diamond jewelry from the new Tiffany & Co. Blue Book collection. Her 61-carat aquamarine and diamond necklace showed off the deep V-neck of her silver Givenchy gown. She also wore aquamarine, the March birthstone, in the form of a platinum and diamond cocktail ring.
Dame Helen Mirren represented glamorous classic jewelry with a suite of sapphires and diamonds from Harry Winston. Set in platinum, her earrings-and-necklace set was reported to be worth $3.8 million. Mirren, who presented the Best Actor award with Jane Fonda, was snapped downing a shot of tequila on the Red Carpet. Cheers to that!
