In December, global color authority Pantone predicted that Emerald Green would be the Color of the Year for 2013. So here we are, just three months in, and the “wearin’ ‘o the green” is much more than a St. Patrick’s Day phenomenon. It’s a full-on fashion and jewelry trend.
“Emerald is the new black,” quipped Christos Garkinos, co-owner of Decades, the Hollywood haute consignment boutique featured on Bravo’s “Dukes of Melrose.” Not only has the jewel tone dominated the runways and red carpets all season long, it seems to have taken on a life of its own in the popular culture. Perhaps Disney’s fantastical film “Oz the Great and Powerful” has something to do with it. After all, who doesn’t want to visit the Emerald City?
Jewelry designers and accessories editors, however, are all about the next big thing for spring. Which hues are making news right now? According to our friends at Pantone, the most popular spring shades (on beyond Emerald) include: Dusk Blue, Linen, Lemon Zest, Tender Shoots, Poppy Red, Greyed Jade, African Violet, Monaco
Blue and Nectarine.
Look for unusual combinations of brightly colored stones in spring jewelry styles, and mix these brights with neutrals for a fashion-forward look. A good example is Thistle & Bee’s sterling silver toggle bracelet with faceted amethyst, citrine and topaz. Yum.
