I’ve heard it said that “One is an example, two’s a coincidence, and three’s a trend.” It’s an adage that has inspired many fashion editors and photographers to group three similar looks from the runway or the street and declare them The Next Big Thing. Both The New York Times T Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar in fact run regular features called “Three’s a Trend.” With this in mind, let’s apply the same Rule of Three to the fine jewelry worn by A-listers at the 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards show last Sunday. Based on the Globes, OBJ predicts you can expect to see more rose gold, vintage jewels and unusually BIG diamonds at tomorrow’s SAG Awards and at the Oscars on March 2. Happy trend-spotting!
“Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery stunned at the Globes in Bulgari’s rose gold and diamond flower earrings and a matching cocktail ring. Lupita Nyong’o, from “12 Years a Slave,” accessorized her exquisite red-caped Ralph Lauren gown with a solid rose gold clutch from Monica Rich Kosann. And Miss Golden Globes Sosie Bacon, who is the daughter of mega-couple Kyra Sedgwick and Keven Bacon, wore demure diamond studs in pink gold.
Naomi Watts chose a vintage gold and diamond Bulgari necklace for her collarless metallic Tom Ford gown, along with a classic gold Serpenti bracelet, also by Bulgari. Melissa McCarthy rocked a pair of ‘50s style gold and diamond earrings from Neil Lane. Julia Louis-Dreyfus turned to Fred Leighton for Victorian gold and pearl earrings and a 19th Century Etruscan gold and pearl bracelet.
Zoe Saldana walked the Globes red carpet in one of the most fashion-forward looks of the night. Her black, white and pink Prabal Gurung off-the-shoulder dress was beautifully set off by a 10-carat fancy gray diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz. E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic sparkled in $3 million worth of Forvermark diamonds, including a 16-carat oval-cut ring. And “American Hustle” star Amy Adams took home the Biggest Diamond of the Night Award for a ‘70s-inspired 30-carat diamond pendant necklace, also by Lorraine Schwartz. Dangling in the décolletage of her two-tone red gown, it was truly a showstopper. Tune in next week!
