Fashion editors, stylists and models have fled to Europe for the Fall 2014 collections, but most of us mere mortals have visions of springtime planted firmly in our heads. To chase away the late-winter blues, let’s look at some Spring 2014 jewelry collections that are showing up in better department and specialty stores right now. OBJ presents three on-trend designer bracelets we love…with tips on how to get the high-end look for less.
Oscar contender Cate Blanchett looks like a Mondrian painting on her fifth Vogue cover, dressed head-to-toe in Céline Spring 2014. Painterly references and brushstroke prints ruled the runways at the spring collections, but Céline’s bold, geometric cuffs kept everything in perspective. Several top accessories editors featured variations of the same bracelet in their pages this season. The black and red Céline cuff is $620, but we found a gold-tone version by Vince Camuto at Macy’s that packs a similar punch for only $48. Look for open-work geometric shapes in metals or matte colors, and make an artistic statement all your own this spring.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 2014 runway show featured a paint box full of pastel prints on dresses and classic Chanel bags. Models wore stacks of neon-infused Lucite bangles in a riot of more-is-more color. You can find similar styles in-store or online at very reasonable prices. Go for the square ones…they’re a little edgier…and collect multiples in hot pink, yellow, blue and green.
Nobody does avant-garde accessories like Prada. Their multi-colored handbags for spring feature bold painted faces…and promise to be one of the “It” bags of the season. Prada’s runway models sported clustered bracelets that mix leather and oversized “jewels” with bravado, many set on preppy racing-stripe bands ($275-$1,800). To get the Prada look for less check out your local fabric or crafts store for faux jewels and striped grosgrain ribbon. Create a one-of-a-kind bracelet…and say you bought in in Milan!
